Buying a home

As your buyer's agent I am in your corner, putting your interests first.

There are many qualities that you’ll want in a REALTOR®. Of course you’ll want a real estate expert, who knows how to access and analyze all the information you will need to make smart decisions throughout this process. But you’ll also want someone who you can trust, who understands your needs, and someone you know is in your corner and will put your interests first.

Common Questions...Answered

Q: Do I really need to choose just one REALTOR® to work with?

A: It is truly in your best interest to find someone you like that you are comfortable with, and to forge a relationship with them.  Here’s why:

  • A good agent will move mountains for a loyal client. And sometimes mountains need to be moved to make a deal happen.

  • This is one of, if not the biggest, purchases you will make in your lifetime. Rather than trust this to just any old agent whose name you saw on a sign, wouldn’t you like to have an ongoing, open and honest relationship with an agent that has taken the time to get to know you?  One who has asked you the pertinent questions to understand your needs and goals in purchasing a home, and been "through the trenches" with you?  An agent that you have come to know, has earned your trust, and that you actually like?

Q: Won’t I get a better deal on a home if I go straight to the agent who is listing the home for sale?

A: NO. In Illinois, agents are allowed to practice what is called "dual agency." This means they can legally represent both the seller and the buyer in a negotiation. "What?" you say. Yes, it’s true.

What are the chances that a person could fairly represent a seller who wants to get as much as they can for their home and a buyer who wants to pay as little as they can for that same home? You got it – very little to no chance. So much for getting the best deal! Plus that agent gets paid on both sides – who is getting the best deal here?

So, the law has addressed that. The agent cannot legally share any information with either side of the deal about the other side. And they cannot give any advice to either side. Hmmmm . . . .so who’s advocating for your best interests?

Q: But what if the house we really like is one that our agent has listed?

A: That will depend on your agent. When that situation arises, we have a pool of experienced, qualified and ethical REALTORs. And your agent will find one that will be a good match for you, and ask them to represent you.

Q: What if I find a property that is not listed with a REALTOR™?

A: A reputable REALTOR™ can represent you in negotiating the purchase of an unlisted property.
